Tagawa Shikkui Plant Pot: Inspired by Centuries of Tradition
The peach-shaped design draws on the heritage of Agano Ware while bringing the warmth of natural materials into today's homes. The Shikkui Plant Pot is an ecological plant pot that is created by making use of the ability of plaster to harden without fire, which means that no CO2 is created during the production of the pot. A pot that helps clean the air!
Just like shikkui earthen walls used in traditional Japanese building construction, this Shikkui Plant Pot has a porous structure, which helps to regulate the humidity between the soil in the pot and the outside air, as well as being excellent at draining, which, compared to plastic pots, makes it brilliant at stabilising the moisture content in the soil. As well as this, the alkaline nature of the hydrated lime means that it is antibacterial, which helps to purify the air around the pot, making it harder for mold to grow on the surface
Crafted using techniques with over 400 years of history
These pots are created using Agano-yaki, a technique that was born in the Agano region, which was used to create ceramics for drinking tea. During the Edo period, Agano Ware became renowned throughout Japan as one of the country's foremost producers of tea utensils.
